Five favorites

I often get asked what I listen to when I go on my morning walks, what TV shows I watched and enjoyed recently as well as who I follow on YouTube and Instagram.

So, I thought I’d share five favorites in each category with you today. If you enjoy this I might make it a recurring thing so let me know.

5 Podcasts

I listen to some Swedish podcasts but to keep it international, here are five that I currently enjoy in English.

#1 A BEAUTIFUL MESS

Elsie and Emma are more known for their blog. To be honest I don’t follow them there but I love the podcast! They talk about topics like home renovations and decor which I really enjoy.

#2 EVERY LITTLE THING

ELT is an entertaining helpline where people call in with their factual emergencies. Is it weird to be nice to Alexa? How do streets get named? I love host Flora Lichtman and ELT is super well produced.

#3 99% INVISIBLE

99% Invisible is hosted by Roman Mars who has got to have one of the best voices on the air. That little giggle of his! The topics are always somewhat design and architecture based and include an excellent episode about Alvar Aalto and kidney shaped Swimming pools.

#4 HOW I BUILT THIS

Guy Raz interviews the innovators, entrepreneurs and idealists behind the brands they built. Episodes include the founders of Soul Cycle, Bobbi Brown and Burt’s Bees. Very interesting and inspiring!

#5 TUXEDO TIME

I follow Becki and Chris on YouTube. She’s a photographer/graphic designer/YouTuber. He’s an interventional radiologist/helicopter pilot. Together they create awesome videos but the podcast is equally entertaining. They share what they do today and how they got there. Don’t listen if swearing is an issue for you.

5 TV shows

Is there even such a thing as a “TV” show anymore? I watch way more YouTube than streaming services and again sometimes I watch local shows that aren’t available outside Sweden.

Here are a few I’ve enjoyed on Netflix and HBO. Not sure they’re all available everywhere though. This was a tricky category to fill to be honest.

#1 KASTANJEMANNEN - THE CHESTNUT MAN

A Danish crime drama about two detectives searching for a murderer who leaves eerie chestnut figurines at his crime scenes. Eeek! Classic Danish Nordic Noir on Netflix. So good!

#2 FAB 5 - QUEER EYE

I do love a good makeover and these guys on Netflix are all just adorable and so sweet to the people they help out.

#3 GET ORGANIZED

I mean, of course I watched this. I used to follow The Home Edit on Instagram early on but it was all a bit much. I did enjoy the Netflix show though!

#4 BLOWN AWAY

I love a show about people creating things and these glass blowers are incredible. Loved every single episode on Netflix.

#5 BRILLO BOX (3¢ OFF)

A documentary on HBO about one of the Brillo boxes that Andy Warhol created in the 1960’s. The director of the documentary grew up on the New York art scene with one of the boxes and we get to see what happened to it over the decades.

5 YouTube channels

This category was easier to fill for sure. I watch quite a lot of YouTube and much is about video creation and channel maintenance so i won’t bore you with that. Instead I’m sharing five channels that I enjoy for other various reasons.

#1 REBECCA SISSON

Rebecca is a fellow minimalist living in Joshua Tree, California. Her focus is sustainability, she has a cute dog called Gypsy and I really enjoy her weekly videos.

#2 LADB RESTORATION

I love me a good before and after! These guys, who I suspect are three generations living rurally in France, restore old vine making equipment and other vintage items. I can watch for hours as they sand blast, wood work and recreate broken pieces.

#3 BAUMGARNER RESTORATION

Julian is a second generation art restorer. We get to see how he completely transforms paintings from dingy, covered in yellow varnish and sometimes badly damaged back to the way the artist intended. Mesmerizing!

#4 BERNADETTE BANNER

Bernadette is a dress historian and former Broadway costume maker. She shares the process of the garments she makes and the history behind the originals. Everything is hand sewn or machine stitched on her antique Singer sewing machines. Always interesting

#5 JAMES HOFFMAN

Why am I even watching this? Everything on James’ channel is about coffee. I’m not even that into coffee but I’m still entertained. Grinder round up? I’m here for it. He’s funny I guess and kind of cute. In a very British way.

5 Instagram accounts

My Instagram is open and you can easily see who I follow but here are five accounts that have caught my eye recently or that I’ve enjoyed for a while.

#1 @LIVVIEJANE

My most recent discovery. This feed is so beautiful and inspiring. The colors, the home, the everything.

#2 @DWELLMAGAZINE

I subscribed to the printed Dwell magazine for a while but was always a bit disappointed that the images in the articles were so small. Their IG accounts does not disappoint though. Gorgeous, gorgeous homes.

#3 @AMANDAJANEJONES

I’ve been a fan of graphic designer Amanda Jane Jones for a long time. Her style is impeccable, her homes stunning and her generosity outstanding.

#4 @OLEANDERANDPALM

Jeran is a Canadian thrifter who lives in Bakersfield, California. She’s a skilled photographer, stylist and online vintage shop owner. I love her Craftsman style home and I also love tagging along when she thrifts on her other account Finders Society.

#5 LEMONTREE_INTERIORS

Sophia who runs the Lemon Tree Interiors IG account also has a beautifully curated online and physical shop in Canada. She’s is quite a recent discovery and I love her sense of humor as well as her sense of style.

Honorable mentions in this category of course go to my BFFs Anne and Sanna, my UK besties Jane and Laura as well as my son Wille and his girlfriend Victoria.
